Description

The Wicked Witch's heartfelt correspondence to a WWII soldier

Actress (1902–1985) best known for her portrayal of The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. Ten ALSs, some multiple pages, all signed “Marg,” all written from 1942 to 1951 to Max Foster (seven addressed to him while he was in the US Army). Letters all have polite content with Hamilton typically addressing the recipient as “Maxie dear” or “sweetie.” In one 1943 letter, Hamilton writes, “I love my dainty shells!! How darling of you to think of it and I can’t thank you enough. They are the color my wedding dress…was—a sort of warm pearl shade.” Ironically, her brief marriage had ended five years earlier. In overall very good condition. Each letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope. A wonderful assortment showing the whimsical and tender side of the ‘Wicked Witch.’ RRAuction COA.
