American soldier (1839–1925) who earned a niche in military history as the only man to serve as an officer in the Civil War, Indian Wars, and Spanish-American War. Though the nearly eighty-year-old Miles volunteered to serve during World War I, his offer was declined by Woodrow Wilson. Ink signature, “Nelson A. Miles, Major General, Cmdg, U.S. Army,” on an off-white card. Signature is removably affixed by its corner tabs to a 12 x 13 mount, along with a photo of Miles on horseback; and a limited edition display of two partial strands of Geronimo’s hair, #236/300, double matted, with two photos, to an overall size of 16 x 20. In fine condition, with some light toning and soiling to signature. Hair is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from University Archive’s John Reznikoff. RRAuction COA.
