Lucius Jeremiah Gartrell

American politician and lawyer, as well as general in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. ALS signed “L. J. Gartrell,” one page, 6 x 9.25, Gartrell & Ladson, Attorneys at Law letterhead, August 20, 1889. Letter to Colonel Charles Jones. In part: “Have an oil portrait taken some 40 years ago, but have no engraved one. You will find a miserable likeness of me in ‘Averys History of Ga.,’ so called. If you desire I will have one taken. I send by today’s mail a photograph taken by Brady of New York in 1879.” Letter has been professionally inlaid to a slightly larger off-white sheet In fine condition, with a uniform shade of mild toning.
