Rubinstein signs for a countess

Russian pianist and composer (1829–1894) acclaimed as one of the foremost keyboard artists of all time. Concentrated 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet bust portrait by W. Hoffert of Dresden, signed in inscribed in French, “A Madame la Comtesse Rosa Lacchis [?] souvenir Ant. Rubinstein, Cadenabbia, 1893,” then adding five bars of music. In very good condition, with semicircular impression near top edge, light staining and emulsion loss to right edge and lower border, scattered light foxing, and mounting remnants on the reverse. Very uncommon in signed photographs. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection. RRAuction COA.
