Egyptian Egyptologist (1853–1942) who was a pioneer of systematic methodology in archaeology and who excavated several important archaeological sites in Egypt. ALS signed “W.M.F. Petrie,” on the back of a 4.5 x 3.5 card promoting “A Public Lecture on the Discovery of a New Race in Egypt,” May 17, 1895. In full: “This lecture is open to the public, & I shall be very glad to see you & your friend. I regret to say that I am too busy to go & see my friend at present. My exhibition will be in July if all goes well. 300 boxes are on the way. I now live at Hampstead, my father is well.” In fine condition, with scattered irregular toning and scattered soiling.
