Real estate magnate (1792–1875), son of John Jacob Astor, and at one time the richest man in America. ALS signed “W. B. Astor,” one page, 4.5 x 7.25, October 20, 1869. Letter to author Mansfield Tracy Walworth thanking him for a copy of his novel Warwick. In full: “I acknowledge your note of the 15th just received, and beg you to accept many thanks for your kind consideration in presenting me with a copy of ‘Warwick.’” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature. Interesting to note that Walworth would achieve notoriety in 1873, having been brutally murdered by his nineteen year old son in a cold and calculated plot. RRAuction COA.
