Description

Unusual postcard portrait, signed as president

Vintage 3.5 x 5.25 three-quarter length postcard photo of “President Roosevelt” (so captioned along lower image edge) standing stoically, signed as president in the lower border in fountain pen, “With regards of Theodore Roosevelt, June 7th, 1903.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered light soiling and creasing (primarily to borders), some light silvering to edges of background, and a light stain to his jacket.

Only two days earlier, Roosevelt had returned to the nation’s capital following a two-month cross-country campaign tour of the United States. Having spent that time trying to impress his views upon the public, as well as impress the public in general, he found his daily D.C. schedule just as hectic. On the day he signed and dated this image, TR had attended the consecration of the Grace Memorial Reformed Church in Washington. An unusual and uninscribed pose. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
