Description

Sergei Prokofiev

Eminent and prolific Russian composer (1891–1953) best known for his colorful, rhythmically vigorous works, including symphonies, operas, and much music for keyboard and chamber ensembles. AMQS on an off-white 6 x 4.5 album page. Prokofiev pens the opening two bars of Gavotte, Op. 32, signing underneath, “Serge Prokofieff 1930.” Also signing below is Prokofiev’s wife, Spanish-born Lina Llubera, who was an important singer at the time, she adds the date of March 13, 1930, Havana [Cuba]. Prokofiev apparently gave out several musical quotes and signatures to those who helped facilitate his Havana concerts. Research indicates signature came from the autograph album of Maria de Leon, who worked at the Auditorium Theater in Vedado, where Prokofiev performed. In fine condition, with punch holes to left edge, a bit of scattered light toning over quote, and some light wrinkling. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
