Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 15.5 x 19.5, December 28, 1880. President Hayes appoints Elias Chandler a “Second Lieutenant in the Sixteenth Regiment of Infantry.” Signed at the conclusion by Hayes, and countersigned by Secretary of War Alexander Ramsey. In fine, bright condition, with intersecting folds, with one horizontal fold through a few letters of signature, and a bit of light toning. The partial black seal is lightly worn.
