Roosevelt signs an early naval commission for future Rear Admiral Schofield

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16 x 20, March 10, 1906. President Roosevelt appoints Frank H. Schofield a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Roosevelt, and countersigned by the acting Secretary of the Navy. In fine condition, with some scattered light toning and wrinkles, and Roosevelt’s signature a shade light. The blue wax seal remains crisp and intact. Frank Schofield (1869 -1942) was instrumental in developing anti-submarine warfare tactics in World War I, earning the Navy Cross. Following the war, he assisted with the development of the Naval Terms of the German Armistice. In 1930, he was promoted to full Admiral, becoming Commander in Chief, Pacific Battle Force. In 1932, he reverted to his permanent rank of Rear Admiral, and served on the General Board until his 64th birthday in 1933, retiring from the Navy after 47 years of service. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
