Russian composer (1903-1978) of the spirited Sabre Dance. ALS in Russian, one page, lightly-lined both sides, 8.25 x 11.75, January 29, 1950. Letter to his close friend Valentina Savona, apologizing for answering so late. In part: “I received a small postcard from Sofia Vasilevna, and after your letter I answered her with a long congratulatory telegram…one thing is bothering me – that I signed with all my official titles. I thought that the anniversary telegram would be read in front of all the famous people, and I thought that the public should know who is sending the congratulations…I’m afraid she didn’t receive my telegram.” In fine condition, with bisecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a light overall shade of toning.
