Description

MacArthur succinctly affirms his role in the Japanese surrender during World War II

Fountain pen signature, “Your statement is correct, Douglas MacArthur,” at the conclusion of an autograph request from a member of the Junior Philatelic Americans on an off-white 8.5 x 11 sheet of their stationery (and bearing their embossed seal at the bottom). The request asks for a signature “preferably on a note telling us that you were the general that headed the Allied delegation that accepted the Japanese surrender in 1945.” A mild shade of toning, and scattered light creasing to edges, otherwise fine condition.

On September 2, 1945, MacArthur was present onboard the USS Missouri to participate in the formal end of World War II. At the time, the general said, “Today, freedom is on the offensive, democracy is on the march. Today, in Asia as well as in Europe, unshackled peoples are tasting the full sweetness of liberty, the relief from fear.” MacArthur’s affirmation of his role in the Japanese surrender, offered here, is executed with expected military precision!
