Description

On FDR’s return after his stroke: “Franklin comes back Sunday in good shape”

TLS as first lady, one page, 6.25 x 9.25, White House letterhead, May 4, 1944. Brief letter to Harry. In full: “I am thrilled to hear about the new firm and I do most sincerely wish you good luck and great success.” Roosevelt adds an interesting handwritten postscript under her signature: “Franklin comes back Sunday in good shape & I know he will be interested too.” In late March 1944, Franklin Roosevelt suffered what is now thought to be a mild heart attack or stroke while planning the D-Day invasion. His doctors ordered him to take a month to rest at Bernard Baruch’s plantation in South Carolina from April 8 to May 7, 1944. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
