Tommy Dorsey saw Sinatra perform with James' band and hired the young man away to perform with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. On January 26, 1940, Sinatra made his first public appearance with the Dorsey band at the Coronado Theater in Rockford, Illinois. In 1942, Sinatra left Dorsey, in an incident that started rumors of Sinatra's mob involvement, and made his solo debut in New York City on December 31, 1942. RRAuction COA.
