Eminent French sculptor (1834–1904) best known for designing the Statue of Liberty. Vintage sepia 3.5 x 4.5 cabinet photo, by Pierre Petit of Paris (and so marked on reverse along with a date of 1878), of an illustration of Bartholdi perched upon scaffolding while working on Lady Liberty’s head. A French caption at the bottom of image reads, “Work on the Statue of Libery.” Signed in the lower border in fountain pen, “Bartholdi.” In fine condition, with just a bit of toning to borders, and a few light spots to image.
