Third-person ALS signed three times in the text “The Queen,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, black-bordered Windsor Castle letterhead, May 17, 1877. A message penned in Victoria’s difficult-to-read hand, evidently related to an issue of protocol, using the phrases “nothing could have a worse effect” and mentioning the Duke of Coburg and Captain Haig.
