Franking signature, “A. Lincoln,” on a 4 x 2.25 mailing panel or envelope addressed in his hand to Thurlow Weed in Albany, New York and bearing an indistinct (1860?) Washington, D.C. postmark. Weed (1797–1882) was a New York political boss and organizer who, after his strong support of Lincoln in the 1860 election, lost favor with the administration after voicing opposition to the Emancipation Proclamation. Matted and framed in a vintage presentation including a portrait engraving and medal measuring 9 x 10.25 overall. In very good condition, with light scattered soiling, a few faint stains and small creases, and tear at upper right corner touching last two letters of signature.
