Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1724–1777). Handwritten endorsement on a 5 x 3 page inlaid to a 6.25 x 3.75 sheet, no date [but circa 1767]. Mortin writes: “Attached money in the Hand of James McGlouchlin, East Caln Township ... John Morton Sheriff.” Faint show-through from partial court document on reverse which, due to the inlaying process, is not visible except when held to a light. The court order reads, in part: “Chester County ss. George the third by the Grace ... faith & c. the Sheriff of Chester County ... County of Philadelphia of ... Province ... by all Singular his goods & Chattel ... there to be held on the thirty first ... of ... various which to him he owes ... Wm.
