British Army officer (1887–1976) who commanded the Allied forces at the Battle of Alamein during World War II and later commanded the ground forces during Operation Overlord. ALS signed “B. L. Montgomery,” one page, 6.5 x 8, Headquarters, 21 Army Group letterhead, April 19, 1944. Montgomery writes to “Dear Hoare.” In full: “I went to the BBC and raised your point. My enquiry on the point you raised was not received with any great enthusiasm; I therefore did not press the matter.
