Scarce matte-finish 9.75 x 7.5 photo of Gandhi and three others on the deck of a ship, signed and inscribed in ink “To Col. Carter, M. K. Gandhi”; “D. M. Gandhi” [evidently his son, Devdas; 1900–1957]; “Mahadev Desai” [1892–1942; Gandhi’s longtime personal secretary]; and “Mira” [Mirabehn, née Madeleine Slade, 1892–1982, the daughter of a British admiral who devoted her life to the causes Gandhi espoused]. The reverse bears a pencil notation indicating that the photo was presented to the owner’s father during a 1930 visit to England by Gandhi. Signatures on the light side but fully legible, and a few trivial dings, otherwise fine condition. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
