Description

John L. Sullivan

Boxer known as the Boston Strong Boy. Fighting on turf, and with bare knuckles, Sullivan became the heavyweight champion of the world under the London Prize Ring rules by defeating Paddy Ryan on February 7, 1882. Ten years later, on September 7, 1892, he lost the championship to James J. Corbett under the new Queensberry rules. Beautiful choice ink signature, “Compliments of John L. Sullivan, Jan 10th, 1890” on a perfect white 3.5 x 2.5 card. Nicely triple matted and framed with a photo of Sullivan in a pugilistic pose to an overall size of 14 x 21.5. In very fine condition, one of the cleanest examples one could hope to find. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
