New York–born sculptor (1828–1895) perhaps best known for his life casts of Abraham Lincoln. Cabinet photo of Lincoln (later generation of Ostendorf 41) on a 4 x 6.5 mount, signed in ink on the reverse, “This photograph of Abraham Lincoln—one of the first with a beard—I regard as one of the best, if not the best, as I remember him after he allowed his beard to grow, Leonard W. Volk, Chicago, March 13th 1893.” A few tiny negative flaws to image and small spots of skinning to mount (one touching “L” of “Leonard,”) otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
