American politician (1814–1869) who served as secretary of war in the cabinets of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. War-dated DS, signed “Edwin M. Stanton, Sec. of War,” one page, 8 x 10, War Department letterhead, January 29, 1862. A military pass “to Fortress Monroe & back” for six named individuals. In very good condition, with soiling, document partly affixed to same-sized card, and partial separations at folds with tape reinforcement to reverse. RRAuction COA.
