Description

Monty Stratton

Pitcher who played five years with the Chicago White Sox. His major league career ended prematurely when a hunting accident in 1938 forced doctors to amputate his right leg. DS, 24 pages, 13 x 8.5, February 26, 1948. Agreement between Stratton and Loew’s for Stratton to appear and assist in an upcoming photoplay (presumably The Stratton Story) with Stratton receiving $500 per week salary. Accompanied by Stratton’s MGM identification card and engagement pass. Stratton’s comeback attempt was the subject of the film The Stratton Story, which starred Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson, with big-leaguers Gene Bearden, Bill Dickey, and Jimmy Dykes in cameo appearances. In fine condition, with moderate storage folds and staples to top edges. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
