Churchill declares a czarist Russian a British subject, shortly after the Tredegar Riots. Partially printed DS, signed “W. S. Churchill,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 13, October 10, 1911. Certificate of Naturalization to an Alien, issued to Beny Hyman. In part, “Whereas Beny Hyman an alien, residing at 40 Marine Street, Cwm, in the County of Monmouth, has presented to me the Right Honourable Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill…that he is a subject of Russia having been born at Novogroodock, Minsk on the 20th of December 1885: and is the son of Berl and Leah Hyman, both subjects of Russia—Shop Manager in an Outfitting and Boot business is unmarried and that in the period of eight years preceding his application has resided for five years within the United Kingdom, and intends, when naturalized, to reside therein.” Signed at the conclusion by Churchill as Home Secretary, as well as by Hyman, and M. H. Badge, as Justice of the Peace for the County of Monmouth. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered creases and wrinkles, and a bit of scattered light toning and soiling.
