Description

Writing to his biographer

American artist and inventor (1791–1872) whose development of the telegraph revolutionized communication—and indeed, society as a whole—and represented a crucial step toward such later innovations as the telephone. ALS signed “Sam. F. B. Morse,” one faintly lined page, 3.75 x 6, August 19, 1841. Morse writes from New York City to Dr. James Wynne in Bellport, Long Island. In full: “I am in town until Thursday evening. If you should be in the city, I should be most happy to see you….” Wynne (1814–1871), a journalist, published an extensive biographical article on Morse in the January 1862 issue of Harper’s magazine. Accompanied by a period portrait engraving. Intersecting mailing folds (faint vertical fold to first name), otherwise fine, bright condition. RRAuction COA.
