Renowned American Shakespearean actor (1833–1893) and brother of Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, June 18, 1871. Booth writes from Long Branch to D. M. Walker. In part: “Being no ‘club-man’ I cannot give any opinion concerning the matter—but I was a member of two clubs, the ‘Century’ and the ‘Lotos,’ but rarely visit them and I feel very little interest in such organizations. I should think, however, that a ‘Dickens Club’—composed of men such as you suggest—would meet with general approval & become very popular among the ‘choicest spirits’….” Accompanied by a period albumen photo. In fine, clean condition. RRAuction COA.
