Description

John F. Kennedy

TLS signed “Jack,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, May 15, 1957. Letter to John Mahanna of The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In full: “Many thanks for your letter in which you enclosed a radio talk by Charles Parker on the selection of the five Senators. His selections were remarkable and I am sending him a note telling him so.” Mahanna was editor of the Berkshire Eagle and a longtime friend of John Kennedy. They met during World War II, and when they returned home, Mahanna supported Kennedy by booking appearances in Massachusetts during Kennedy’s Congressional and Senate races. Kennedy corresponded with Mahanna often and usually referenced Mahanna’s letters or calls in his letters. After Kennedy was elected president in 1960, Mahanna was appointed to a position in Washington, D. C. Charles Parker was a BBC Radio producer based in Birmingham from 1954-1972 who specialized in Documentary Radio and Theatre. He won an award for his Radio Documentary in 1960 which is seen as a landmark of study in oral history. In fine condition, with three punch holes to left edge, and a bit of trivial wrinkling. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
