Celebrated Welsh poet (1914–1953) who, before dying of alcoholism at the age of thirty-nine, produced some of the most remarkable verse of the twentieth century, including “And Death Shall Have No Dominion” and “A Refusal to Mourn the Death, by Fire, of a Girl in London.” ALS, one page neatly trimmed in size to 5.25 x 5, no date. Thomas writes to Michael Powell. In full: “Roger Burford gave your address to my agent, David Higham, and said that you wanted to hear from me about the possibility of my working on a film story. I wasn’t told any details, but I would, of course, like enormously to work on a story for you. Could we meet anywhere? Or would you drop me a line? I’ll be at this address….” Powell (1905–1990), a prominent British author and film director, helmed such classics as Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes. Though Powell and Thomas planned to collaborate, with Igor Stravinsky, on a series of films in the 1950s, the project evidently came to naught.
