ALS signed with his less common full “Rutherford B. Hayes,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, March 28, 1888. Hayes writes to the president of Wilmington College. In part: “Your favor … in which I am honored with an invitation to your next annual commencement is before me. With engagements already made for that period, I am compelled, with regret, to deny myself the pleasure of being with you….” Mild soiling and handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
