Description

Royalties for Gone with the Wind

American author (1900–1949) whose single novel, Gone with the Wind, became one of the best-sellers of all time and spawned one of the most fabled movies in Hollywood history. She died after being struck by a speeding car at the age of 48. TLS signed “Margaret Mitchell Marsh,” one page, 7.25 x 10, personal letterhead, May 19, 1948. Mitchell writes to Mr. Grunbaum. In part: “I have received from Otava a royalty statement on ‘Gone with the Wind’ and also their check for $621.36. I wrote Otava and made inquiry if your commission of 10% had been paid to you. This morning their reply informs me that you have not been paid…. I would like your instructions as to how this money should be paid. Do you wish to use this money for purchases of food and tobacco, as you did your other commissions? If this is your wish, please tell me exactly what articles you wish me to purchase for you…. I hope you and Mrs. Grunbaum are in good health. My husband’s health has improved greatly during the past year and I am happy to say that he was well enough to take a little vacation recently, our first in two-and-a-half years….” Secretarial notations, a few light bends (one to last name) and a touch of light soiling, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
