Noblewoman (1660–1744) who, as a close friend of Queen Anne, became one of the most influential and richest British women of all time. Outspoken and forceful in her political beliefs, she was exiled from the royal court in 1711 after clashing with the queen but later established favorable relations with the Hanoverians after Anne’s death. A receipt for £350 as part of an annuity under the terms of “An Act for granting an Aid to her Majesty for carrying on the War, and other Her Majestey’s Occasions, by selling Annuities at several Rates and for such respective Terms or Estates, as are therein mentioned….” Matted and framed with a period portrait engraving to an overall size of 20 x 15.5. In fair condition, with scattered soiling and staining (touching first letter) and scattered tears and small holes. The signature is dark, clear, and otherwise unaffected. R&R COA.
