Partly engraved DS, signed with his less-common full “Rutherford B. Hayes,” one page, 24 x 18.5, May 3, 1892. A membership certificate for “Brevet Brigadier General Datus Ensign Coon, U.S. Volunteers” in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. Coon (1831–1893) served as captain, major, and colonel of the 2nd Iowa Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. Light scattered toning and soiling (faint area of toning to “Hayes”), and mild handling wear with a few small creases and chips, otherwise fine condition. Many of the faults can easily be matted out.
