Description

Jimi Hendrix Experience

Short-lived but highly influential English/American rock band best known for the uniquely virtuosic guitar work of frontman Jimi Hendrix (1942–1970). Though initially conceived in 1966 as Hendrix’s backing band, The Experience soon became one of the first groups to popularize the “power trio” format of bass, guitar and drums. By April 1969, Hendrix had decided to break up the group as a result of deteriorating relations with Redding and his wish to expand his musical horizons. The group held together long enough to fulfill their existing engagements, culminating in the Denver Pop Festival on June 29. It was there that the original Experience was dissolved following Hendrix’s famous announcement from the stage: “This is the last gig we’ll be playing together.” Vintage 4.5 x 6 cardstock Track Record promotional photo of Hendrix and his band, with his releases listed on the reverse, signed on the front in ballpoint, “Jimi Hendrix,” “Noel Redding,” and “Mitch” [Mitchell]. Consignor indicates that signatures were obtained in Belfast, Ireland in 1967, at Whitla Hall where Hendrix was celebrating his 25th birthday. Accompanied new a clipped newspaper article recounting Hendrix in Belfast. Poor contrast to all three signatures, a single tack hole to top edge, light bisecting horizontal crease through facial areas, and some adhesive residue across top edge, otherwise very good condition. One of rock and roll’s most coveted signatures! COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
