American patriot (1736–1799) best remembered for his stirring, historic declaration, “Give me liberty or give me death.” Partly printed DS as Governor of Virginia, signed “P. Henry,” one page, 14.5 x 19, April 6, 1785. A grant for a parcel of land issued to Ozer Rees. The reverse has also been docketed by John Harvie (1742–1807), a former delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Articles of Confederation. The parcel of land in question, situated in Lincoln County, became part of Kentucky following statehood in 1792. In good condition, with intersecting folds (associated toning, partial separations and small holes touching a few words of text; a few archival reinforcements to reverse), and light scattered toning, soiling, and staining.
