Description

Signing a television contract in the twilight of his career

Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning American film actor (1907-1979). He epitomized rugged masculinity and has become an enduring American icon. He is famous for his distinctive voice, walk and physical presence. DS, five pages, 8.5 x 11, July 12, 1977. An agreement to appear in six “specials” and two “variety” specials for ABC. Wayne is granted a considerable amount of control over the content of the shows—one proposed special is to be titled “The Duke Remembers”— as the network is “mindful of your image, tradition, and attitudes in the development and production of the same.” For his services Wayne will be paid a salary of two million dollars in several installments. After signing on the final page, Wayne adds his social security number. Usual file and staple holes to top edge, otherwise fine, bright condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
