TLS, signed in pencil, one page trimmed in size to 8 x 7, no date [circa 1955]. Marciano writes to Ernest E. Collicutt, Public Relations Manager of the Fresno Rockets. In part: “I am very sorry that my wife and I and my staff are not able to accept your invitation to attend the opening game of the Fresno Rockets…. We send our regrets due to training regulations. We wish the World’s Champions nothing but great success in the coming year and will be praying for all of you to come through as World’s Champions in ’55. I have been thinking very seriously of sponsoring a girls softball team when I return to the East. If this comes through it would be a great pleasure to play the Fresno Rockets, Women’s World’s Softball Champions in the future….” Accompanied by an original photo depicting Marciano holding up a special commemorative robe and a 1955 clipping explaining that Collicutt had the robe specially made. In very good condition, with trimming as noted, marginal chips, intersecting creases (light horizontal crease to signature), and glue stains to top edge. The signature is otherwise unaffected.
