Description

NO RESPECT FOR HIS ELDERS: “Some times old people drag on for quite a long while”

Golfer (1902–1971) who, in 1930, became the only Grand Slam winner in the sport’s history, taking the U.S. and British Open and U.S. and British Amateur titles. Over the course of his career, he would win a total of four U.S. Open titles, five U.S. Amateur titles, and three British Open titles. TLS signed “Bob,” one page, 8.5 x 11, law firm letterhead, September 23, 1947. Jones writes to Rufus E. Brown, manager of the Coca-Coca Bottling Company of Rutland, Vermont. In part: “I would like very much to have the Chaffee property, but it would be a risk, in my opinion, to buy this property with the provision that Mrs. Chaffee could stay in the house as long as she lived. Some times old people drag on for quite a long while. Anyway, I am glad you have the barn and I hope very much that you can get a three-year lease with an option to buy it….” A hint of faint marginal toning and handling wear, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
