Description

PHYSICAL FEATURES: EINSTEIN signs an original portrait drawing

Striking and accomplished artist’s portrait drawing of Einstein, pencil on a cream 6 x 8.5 sheet, signed in ink at lower left “Albert Einstein, 1932.” Accompanied by an early mailing envelope and an unsigned typed note explaining the provenance. In part [spellings retained]: “Circa 1930 or mebby 33 or so, our file clerk Dorothy Hendrickson drew it from a newspaper picture. Dorothy was both artistic and arty—an eyefull. I sent it to Ein, who autographed it. Dorothy … was a part Swede, part Rooshun, about 6 feet high, high blonde, and people would stop on the street to look at her—just so damn goodlookin. But temperamental.” The reverse of the drawing bears the ink notation, “Please return to Albert G. Ingalls, Associate Editor, The Scientific American, 24 West 40 St., New York”; the mailing envelope also bears a handwritten “Ingalls” as part of the return address, indicating that he was evidently the author of the note. In fine condition, with a few very light, tiny marginal spots, and faint vertical crease at far right (confined to the background and easily matted out with ample room to spare). Handsome for display! Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
