Description

Oscar-nominated, Russian-born actress (1887–1949), likely best remembered for her portrayal of Maleva, the old Roma fortuneteller in the 1941 horror classic The Wolf Man. Ouspenskaya died from a stroke several days after receiving severe burns in a house fire, which she had caused by falling asleep while smoking a cigarette.  TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, Maria Ouspenskaya Studio of Dramatic Art letterhead, June 11, 1940. Letter of thanks for payment received. In part: “Thank you so much for these remittances. It has been a great pleasure to me to know that my students are benefitting from your skillful training. Now I am looking forward to a restful vacation this summer…” In fine condition. R&R COA.
