Massachusetts statesman, patriot, and first Signer of the Declaration of Independence (1737–1793). Bold ink signature, “John Hancock,” on a 4.25 x 1.25 slip cut from a 1790 document and inlaid to a slightly larger slip. Matted with a reproduction color engraving to an overall size of 8 x 12.5. In very good condition, with glue staining to top edge (just touching top of “J”), tiny tear just touching loop of “J,” some faint smudging and toning, and light show-through from writing on reverse.
