Empress of Russia (born 1729) who reigned from 1762 until her death in 1796. Manuscript DS, in Cyrillic, boldly signed (in Russian) “Catherine,” one page, 21 x 14.75, St. Petersburg, August 8, 1769. An untranslated official document evidently conferring an ecclesiastical award or appointment. A second attached page bears a Latin translation. A large (5.5″) wax and paper seal is affixed at lower left. Mild handling wear, and scattered tiny red wax traces from seal (slightly touching signature but not affecting legibility in the least), otherwise fine, bright condition.
