Description

Working on a new story idea with the screenwriter of Dumbo

TLS signed “Walt,” one page, 7.25 x 9.25, Walt Disney Productions Inter-Office Communication letterhead, May 29, 1963. Disney writes to Dick Huemer (1898–1979), who worked as a screenwriter on such Disney classics as Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland. In part: “Thanks for calling my attention to Find the Boy by W. H. Canaway. I find we did review this story last October and at that time the comments were, in effect, that we would not be interested in it. However, I have just finished reading it and it seems to me it might make a three-part television story if we could find a way of cutting costs by using stock footage…. Recently we have put a plan in operation here in the studio that, when certain stories reach the treatment stage, we turn them over to various people for their thoughts and criticisms that may serve to further build up the story…. If this does fit in with your comic strip work, then I think you ought to give it a try. This would not be a writing assignment, actually, but more in the nature of supplemental gage material for our feature scripts. Anyway, Bill will explain it all to you, and I hope you will want to give it a try….” Matted (in a custom-cut pictorial mat) and framed with a photo to an overall size of 21 x 17.75. Horizontal fold touching “W,” and mild scattered handling wear with a few tears and wrinkles to body, otherwise fine condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
