In full: “I don’t think I can help anyone get a commission on General Wood’s staff. I don’t know that he will be allowed a staff. Of course, Wood ought to be in command of the expeditionary force. Take this letter to him yourself, and put the matter before him….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and three related unsigned letters from Tuckerman and the man on whose behalf he made the request.
