Franking signature, “James Monroe,” on an unmarked 5 x 3.25 (panel size) postal cover addressed in his hand to General A. Giles in New York. A later pencil notation on a flap dates the item to 1818. Accompanied by an antique portrait engraving. In good condition, with vertical fold (touching “J”), tears to tape repairs to reverse, and wrinkling and light soiling. The signature is dark and clear.
