Outspoken in his liberal political beliefs, Garfield was blacklisted in Hollywood during the McCarthy Era, leading to his return to the stage and his premature death at the age of 39. Vintage matte-finish photo slightly trimmed in size to 7.75 x 9.75, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Fran and Joe, Good wishes, John Garfield.” In very good condition, with trimming as noted, a touch of mild soiling, slight rippling, light crease through first line of description, and marginal dent to right edge.
