Description

Legendary organized crime leader (1902–1983) who headed the notorious “enforcement” syndicate Murder, Inc., which emerged in the early 1930s as successor to the warring Prohibition gangs and the old-line Mafia, and continued to operate into the 1950s. Bank check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Lansky, payable to the Sherwin Cody School for $27.00, October 17, 1938. Accompanied by one of Meyer’s stock reports listing shares in Barium Stainless Steel, International Telephone & Telegraph, and Seversky Aircraft. A portion torn from the middle of the check by removal from previous mounting, just touching the beginning of signature which also has residue show-through, scattered toning, and cancellation stamp over portion of last name, otherwise good to very good condition. The missing area of text has been restored, with text enhancement. R&R COA.
