Description

Polish pianist, composer, and politician (1860–1941) whose abounding talent and personal magnetism made him one of the most popular virtuosi of all time. In a career move that remains unique in the annals of classical music, Paderewski served for a year (1919) as Prime Minister of Poland before resuming an ultra-successful career as a concert artist. Signed book: Poland: Past and Present. NY: Polish Victims’ Relief Fund, 1916. Limp suede covers, 7.5 x 10.25, 14 pages. Signed in ink on the title page “I. J. Paderewski.” The book, comprising the text of an address by Paderewski at the Polish Benefit Concert in Chicago on February 5, 1916, was evidently issued as a fundraiser. Light toning and soiling to covers, and a touch of subtle scattered soiling and toning to interior, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
