Description

“There are photos that could only be used in ‘Hustler’ magazine”

Legendary ecdysiast (born 1932) whose story detailing her life in and out of clothing was the subject of the book and subsequent film Blaze. ALS, one lined page, 8.5 x 11, no date. Starr writes to David about her affair with Earl Long. In part: “Oh yes, there was a lot of things I didn’t tell in my book or the movie ‘Blaze.’ While I was engaged to Governor Earl K. Long of La., he liked for me to strip for him in unusuall [sic] places. Once he had me climb a willow tree in the back yard of the mansion in Baton Rouge, wearing only panties, bra and a flowing white negligee. He would stand under the tree, and applaud and howl like a wolf, each piece of clothing as I slowly took it off and dropped it…. The next week Life magazine hit the newsstands, with a page high picture of me in the negligee, saying Blaze Strips for Govener [sic] Earl Long at the mansion…. Well Earl threw a fit. He had his lawyers sue Life, for invading his privacy…. Some where out there, there are photos that could only be used in ‘Hustler’ magazine. I hope they never come to light….” Starr has also added a color self-portrait, a small sketch of a rose, and a lipstick print kiss. A few faint stains to body of letter, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
