Partly printed DS as president, one page slightly trimmed in size to 16 x 11.75, January 19, 1854. An appointment for Benjamin B. French as justice of the peace in Washington, D.C. Countersigned by W. L. Marcy as secretary of state. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower left. Accompanied by an antique portrait engraving. Trimming as noted, intersecting folds, a hint of subtle soiling and wrinkling (faint toning at upper left corner), otherwise fine, bright condition. The signature is large, dark, and perfect.
